All bird lovers welcome! If you're looking for a way to expand your birding knowledge and connect with other nature enthusiasts the Great Backyard Bird Count is a great event to attend.
Join us at the historic Kilgore-Lewis House from 9:00am - 10:00am Saturday, February 14th for the Great Backyard Bird Count. Address: 560 N Academy St. Greenville, SC 29601.
The arboretum grounds are mostly paved with some uneven gravel and grassy areas. There are places with steps and moderate grade so wear comfortable shoes. Remember to dress for the weather as this event will be an entirely outdoors. Binoculars, cameras, notepad and pen are all encouraged but not required for participation. We also recommend downloading the Merlin Bird ID app to aid in identification.
Attendees will gain insight on the history and impact of the Great Backyard Bird Count and information on how to do their own count. We'll begin with brief introductions and orientation before walking the gardens identifying birds by sight and sound. Data collected from this count will be submitted to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Audubon Society and will contribute to the global citizen science event through birdcount.org.
